What the listings don't tell you

Your stay at the park

Despite its name, the park is not in Zeeland but in South Holland, on the Ouddorp headland, between the North Sea and the Grevelingen lake. The confusion comes from the commercial name; the address itself is indeed at Ouddorp. Rotterdam is 52 minutes away, Brussels 2 hours 11 minutes, Amsterdam 1 hour 42 minutes.

The wind is the real character of the place. The Brouwersdam, 8 minutes away, is a recognised kitesurfing spot, usable from April to October; the beach is the same distance away, and seal safaris leave from there in the warmer months. Diving in the Grevelingen is 23 minutes away and is for equipped adults. Deltapark Neeltje Jans, which tells the story of the Delta works and adds a few attractions, is 22 minutes away. Ouddorp, a village of brick and dunes, 8. On the park: indoor pool with wave pool, private sauna, children's club, indoor play area, supermarket, bike hire, wifi, dogs allowed. No spa in our data. Three cottage ranges, Comfort, Premium, VIP. Zoover rating of 8.2 out of 10, with no review count published.

A common-sense remark: this coast is windy and cold for a large part of the year, and that is also what gives it its reputation among kitesurfers. In November, the beach and the seals lose much of their interest, and what is left is the wave pool. The park is worth the trip for anyone who does a wind or water sport, and for beach families in July and August. It is not worth the 2 hours' drive for a swimming-pool holiday: other parks that are closer do just as well on that ground.
