Center Parcs alternatives: the parks that really compare

A Center Parcs comes down to three things: an enclosed estate, often in woodland, cottages to rent and a large indoor pool with slides. Several brands offer all three. We counted them in our catalogue of 765 parks, keeping only facilities confirmed by the operator.

The short answer

The closest alternatives to Center Parcs are Sunparks (same group, in Belgium), Landal GreenParks (Netherlands, Germany, Belgium), Park Molenheide and Dierenbos (Libéma). All rent cottages in an enclosed park, and the parks we name here have a confirmed indoor pool with slides or waves.

France has no true twin: Pierre & Vacances villages offer cottages with an indoor pool at a few sites, while the upmarket Sandaya and Siblu campsites add water parks to mobile homes or chalets.

“Slides or waves” counts parks where the operator advertises a wave pool or water slides. Capfun and Haven have many indoor pools, but none of their parks advertises slides in our records.

The table shows two things. Center Parcs remains the most consistent brand: nearly all its parks have an indoor pool with slides. Elsewhere you have to choose the park, not just the brand. At Landal, 80 of 186 parks have a confirmed indoor pool, but only 32 advertise slides or waves.

In the Benelux: Sunparks, Landal, Molenheide and Dierenbos

  • Sunparks is the direct cousin: same group as Center Parcs, same idea of cottages around an indoor water centre, on two Belgian parks, in Mol (Kempense Meren) and on the coast (Oostduinkerke). The differences are set out in Center Parcs or Sunparks: the real differences.
  • Landal GreenParks is the broadest alternative, with 186 parks in our database. The style varies: large parks with a tropical pool such as Het Vennenbos or Beach Resort Kamperland, and many small nature parks without a pool.
  • Park Molenheide, in Houthalen-Helchteren in Belgian Limburg, is an independent woodland estate with a pool with slides, bowling and an indoor play area.
  • Dierenbos, in Vinkel (Libéma), combines indoor and outdoor pools, slides, bowling and a children's farm, making it a family alternative to the Center Parcs in Brabant.
  • EuroParcs has 21 parks with a confirmed indoor pool, most often by a lake or in woodland.

In France: Pierre & Vacances, Sandaya and Siblu

France has six Center Parcs and Villages Nature Paris, but no other brand copies the model exactly. Three come close, depending on what you are after.

  • Pierre & Vacances villages are the closest in format: cottages or apartments on an estate, with an indoor pool at 7 of the 22 sites in our database. Belle Dune, on the Côte d'Opale, is the most complete example.
  • Sandaya is an upmarket campsite brand: 17 of its 24 parks have a confirmed indoor pool and 15 have slides. You stay in a mobile home or a lodge rather than a cottage.
  • Siblu follows the same approach across 5 villages, all with confirmed slides and a kids' club.

Further afield: Denmark and Switzerland

In Denmark, Danland has 14 parks with an indoor pool, nearly all by the sea. In Switzerland, the Reka holiday villages nearly all have one (9 of 10), in a mountain setting that is quieter than a Center Parcs.

How to choose your real alternative

  1. Decide what matters most: the pool with slides, the woodland, the cottage or the price.
  2. Filter for parks with an indoor pool, then check on the park page that the slides are confirmed.
  3. Compare the driving time from home: an equivalent park 1 hour away is often better than a Center Parcs 3 hours away.
  4. Open the booking page of the two or three parks you shortlist with the same dates to compare real prices.

Put a Center Parcs and its alternatives side by side, on facilities and travel time.
