Which day should you arrive at a holiday park?

Leaving on a Friday after work looks free: no leave to book, and the first night is paid for either way. The drive, though, is not free. Here is what the 4pm-7pm window adds on ten parks, in measured minutes.

What a Friday evening costs, in one answer

Leaving on a Friday between 4pm and 7pm adds 25 to 40 minutes to the same drive for parks under two hours from Brussels, and up to an hour for the furthest ones. On a three-night stay, that half hour is about a quarter of the first evening on site.

Driving times on hoprat are calculated over the real road network from 31 departure cities. The Friday peak window applies a coefficient of 1.3 to them, which is a deliberate approximation and not a live traffic reading.

How much does a Friday evening really cost you?

Ten parks, leaving from Brussels. On the left the normal driving time, on the right the same drive on a Friday between 4pm and 7pm. Recorded on 14 September 2026.

  • Landal Mooi Zutendaal — 1h 21m in normal conditions, 1h 45m on a Friday evening (+24 min).
  • EuroParcs Zilverstrand — 1h 22m, 1h 47m (+25 min).
  • Center Parcs Erperheide — 1h 24m, 1h 49m (+25 min).
  • Sunparks Kempense Meren — 1h 30m, 1h 57m (+27 min).
  • Center Parcs De Kempervennen — 1h 31m, 1h 58m (+27 min).
  • Landal Het Vennenbos — 1h 36m, 2h 05m (+29 min).
  • Center Parcs De Vossemeren — 1h 36m, 2h 05m (+29 min).
  • Vayamundo Houffalize — 2h 00m, 2h 36m (+36 min).
  • Center Parcs Les Ardennes — 2h 02m, 2h 39m (+37 min).
  • Center Parcs Park Eifel — 3h 12m, 4h 10m (+58 min).

The penalty grows with distance, since it is proportional. A park an hour and a half away loses half an hour, a park three hours away loses close to a full one. That is what turns Park Eifel from an afternoon on the road into an entire evening.

The two-hour threshold, and why a Friday crosses it

Twelve parks of the parks we analysed in detail are two hours or less from Brussels in normal conditions. That is the threshold above which a family with young children plans a stop, and below which they arrive before the evening meal.

The peak window moves that threshold. Landal Het Vennenbos and Center Parcs De Vossemeren both go from 1h 36m to 2h 05m: they leave the “we'll be there before dinner” category on the strength of one time slot, without moving a kilometre. Vayamundo Houffalize, already at exactly two hours, climbs to 2h 36m.

The driving-time filter on the search page works on normal times. If you are leaving late on a Friday, add a third in your head before you set your limit.

Leaving on Saturday morning: what you gain, what you lose

Pushing the departure to Saturday morning makes the traffic penalty disappear: the drive goes back to the left-hand column. For Les Ardennes that hands back 37 minutes; for Park Eifel, almost an hour.

What you lose is more concrete. On a three-night Friday-to-Monday format, the Friday night is charged whether you sleep there or not. Arriving on Saturday morning therefore means paying for three nights and using two, which takes an estimate of €885 at Landal Het Vennenbos from €295 per night used to €443.

The sums add up if it leaves you an evening at home rather than in a traffic jam, and if the lost night costs you less than the tiredness you avoid. They do not add up if the point is merely to save half an hour of driving.

From Liège, Antwerp and Amsterdam, the order changes

The same park does not fall into the same category depending on where you set off from, and the spread is far wider than the Friday penalty.

  • Center Parcs Les Ardennes is 2h 02m from Brussels and 54 minutes from Liège. For a Liège household it is a local park; for a Brussels one, half a day on the road on a Friday evening.
  • EuroParcs Zilverstrand drops to 51 minutes from Antwerp against 1h 22m from Brussels, and Landal Het Vennenbos to 1h 01m against 1h 36m.
  • Center Parcs De Eemhof is 47 minutes from Amsterdam and 2h 46m from Brussels: the same park, two different holidays.

And the Sunday journey home?

Our data does not model the return leg. The traffic coefficient only covers the Friday 4pm-7pm window, and no equivalent coefficient exists for Sunday evening in our selection. The times shown for a return journey are therefore normal times.

What can be said without inventing a figure: on a Friday-to-Monday format, you leave on the Monday morning, not on the Sunday evening. The end-of-weekend return only arises if you leave the park a day early, which the format does not require.

What the site does not know about your arrival

The time you can get into the accommodation is set by the operator, and it appears on your booking confirmation. hoprat does not store that, nor reception opening hours, nor how keys are handed over outside those hours.

The same goes for the deposit, the tourist tax and any cleaning fee: those amounts are read on the operator's booking page, never here. Every park page carries the direct link to it.

Frequently asked questions

Should you arrive on Friday evening or Saturday morning?
A Friday evening costs 25 to 40 minutes of extra driving for a park under two hours from Brussels. Saturday morning hands those minutes back, but the Friday night is still charged on a three-night format: you pay for three nights and use two. The swap is justified by the tiredness avoided, not by the price.
How much time does Friday evening traffic add?
About a third of the driving time, so 24 minutes for Landal Mooi Zutendaal (1h 21m → 1h 45m), 29 minutes for Landal Het Vennenbos and Center Parcs De Vossemeren (1h 36m → 2h 05m), and 58 minutes for Center Parcs Park Eifel (3h 12m → 4h 10m). That coefficient of 1.3 is an approximation applied to the 4pm-7pm window, not a live traffic reading.
Can you arrive on a day other than the one in the format?
Arrival days depend on the format booked and on the operator. The weekend runs Friday to Monday, the midweek Monday to Friday. Arriving later is possible with no refund for the missed night; arriving earlier means booking an extra night. The exact rule appears on your confirmation.
What time can you get into the accommodation?
The arrival time is set by the operator and it appears on your booking confirmation. hoprat does not store the parks' check-in times: inventing them would give a wrong figure on half the pages. The link to the operator's booking page is on every park page.
